Forget about the political voting Terry! The winner every year is the one that gets some points from all of the participating countries rather than 12 points from only a few. Here is the formula for creating a Eurovision Song Contest winner, i.e. something that appeals to all 42 nations that participate.       How-To GuideThe SongProductionPerformer

The singer should be presentable and should have a strong stage presence and performance.

General public in each country, who are not experts in music, give points to songs by televoting. They tend to vote for good looking (?) female singers who have strong voices.

In the last 18 years, 13 female performers (including the controversial Dana International), 3 male duos, 1 solo male (Italy's one and only Toto Cutugno) and 1 instrumental act (secret garden) has won the contest.
